Parents of Children with Special Needs

What is PCSN?

PCSN is a support group for Parents of Children with Special Needs –a ministry of our church, the Evangelical Free Church of Eaton at 1325 3rd St, Eaton that meets the fourth Monday of every month. Our church provides a free meal and childcare while the parents meet and talk and usually we bring in a speaker who is a specialist in some area that will be helpful to parents. We meet from 6:00pm-8:15pm. We also have a mother’s night out all other Mondays when mothers who just want to talk come to Borders at 6:00pm and just talk until they want to go home.

We also have a Sunday School class for special needs young adults older than 12. Younger children are mainstreamed into typical Sunday School classes.

What does it take to work with these children? It does not take special knowledge and training as much as it takes special love. We have volunteers in this church from the age of 11 to over 60. We do the same things everyone else does to provide a fun evening for children so their parents can have some support. We have crafts, games and music. But most of all we offer love. We do have some people with limited training. We have grad students from CSU in the field of occupational therapy. We have nursing students from Aims.
