Ezekiel 19

Good Morning Branches.  Today we are in Ezekiel 19.

Judah was looking to herself for rescue and salvation.  Judahs salvation would not come through her “lions”, but through the “Lion of Judah”.

The mother of the last kings of Israel, Hamutal, was like a vine planted “by the water.”  Her family grew abundantly, sprawled out, and bore the fruit of success.

Apart from their fruit, grapevines are only good for fire fuel.  It is this fact that Jesus references when pointing back to Israel’s apostasy in John 15:5-6.  It serves as a lesson for all future generations as well.

The branch (Zedekiah) referenced by Ezekiel in this chapter was planted in a dry and thirsty land (Babylon).  His rebellion against Babylon brought the collapse of Judah.

It may seem merciless for Ezekiel to tell them they will be destroyed in just a few short years - but THAT’S Gods TRUTH.  It only seems merciless to us because we live in a world that has only focused on one side of Gods character.  Yes He’s full of Grace!  He is indeed Love!  But remember Love doesn’t allow or encourage bad behavior!  His character will not allow sin to go unchecked.

Jesus paid the price of our sin - death (Romans 6:23).  Truly “believing” and receiving His payment applies It to our account, but that doesn’t mean God lets our sin go without correction / discipline.  He may allow it for a time, until the time for discipline comes… but it will be dealt with.  You know one of the best explanatory passages on this Truth…  I’ve referred to it often as we’ve considered this principle (Hebrews 12:4-13).

Love you all.  Dig in!
