Good Morning “Whole Hearted.” Today we are in Zephaniah 1.
First a little background. King Manasseh led Judah into its greatest time of corruption, injustice and paganism. Manasseh’s grandson Josiah on the other hand, led Judah back to their faith and obedience of God. Furthermore he reasserted Judahs independence from foreign empires. At least part of Josiah’s commitment to return to God seemed to be fueled by a member of his court who stood up and warned that Judah had broken her covenant with The Lord, and thus was on the brink of destruction. That member was the prophet Zephaniah.
Zephaniah leaves us with a lesson. Having a reputation of holiness is not the same as being holy. And there is a time when the Lord will search throughout the earth, looking for half-hearted men, to separate them from His people, intending to destroy them. The object of Zephaniah’s prophecy was to warn those clinging to a “form of godliness” of the coming judgment. Peter also echoed Zephaniah’s sentiments:
“But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.” 2 Peter 2:1-3 NIV
Love you all! Dig in and live it out!
