Ecclesiastes 1

Good Morning “Meaningful”.  Today we are in Ecclesiastes 1.

We all want our lives to mean something.  We work, and strive and labor… but is it in vain?  What is it all for?  What is the purpose?  Solomon in all his wisdom, says it’s all meaningless.  What then is the point?

When the purpose is self advancement, or bringing glory to ourselves… indeed it means nothing as it relates to eternity.  Oh, we may amass some wealth, climb the ladder, or build a small empire here on earth… but this life is like a blink of an eye.  “Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” James‬ ‭4‬:‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Rather than struggling to collect, advance and set ourselves up for our time here, wouldn’t our time be better spent on setting ourselves up for FOREVER (Matthew 6:19-21)?

This was not just a personal journal thought of Solomon’s that we discovered under his pillow after he died.  Solomon included this principle in Psalm 127, a song of Ascents.  When the Israelites were ascending to worship the Lord at the temple in Jerusalem, Solomon wanted them to deeply consider and contrast their labor in the world with their labor for the Lord (Psalm 127:1-5).

Jesus taught the same principle.  He urged those that would follow Him to trade their earthly life and pursuits for Kingdom wealth, even if it included persecution (Mark 8:34-38).

Consider the selfish side of pursuing an earthly kingdom, which only perishes, and when deceived - results in hell (James 3:13-18).  Consider the damage to the next generation that looks on and emulates.  Godliness is laboring for the gospel and ensuring our kids do, as well!

ALL for His Glory!  (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Love you all!  Dig in!
