Zephaniah 3

Good Morning “Inventory Takers”.  Today we are in Zephaniah 3.

In Zephaniahs day Jerusalem had turned away from The Lord.  In fact Judah had sunk to her one of her lowest lows during the reigns of King Manasseh and King Amon.  Then came Josiah who was different than his father and grandfather.  He listened to Gods warning and destroyed all the high places and led the charge of repentance in Judah.

In this chapter Zephaniah simply lists the aspects of Jerusalem’s rebellion against God.  I’m a simple man.  So I like it when things are put simply.  Check out verse 2… “She obeys no one, she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the Lord, she does not draw near to her God.” Zephaniah‬ ‭3‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Let’s break each of these down as we look in the mirror considering our own level of obedience:
1.  She obeys no one.  Obviously if we are going to obey anyone we should obey The Lord first and foremost!  He’s the One who gives us life and breath and everything else (Acts 17:25).  Before we jump to say we obey Him we must ask if we know His Word?  Are we daily renewing our minds (Romans 12:2)?  For only through His Word can we be successful in the are of obedience (Joshua 1:8, Psalm 119:9-11)

2. She accepts no correction.  Only a fool rejects correction from The Lord, or from those He’s placed in our lives to help grow us up (Proverbs 15:5).  Do we heed correction or arrogantly spurn it (Hebrews 12:7-11).  Are we teachable?

3. She does not trust in The Lord.  What is it we trust in?  Our own strength?  Our government?  Who do we turn to (Proverbs 3:5-7)?  Seems most logical to Trust The One that holds it all in His hand (Hebrews 1:3).

4. She does not draw near to God.  In our struggle do we pull away and sink deeper into our sin, or… do we draw close to Him?  James gives us a 2 part solution to our sin and temptation (James 4:7-8).

NEVER buy Satans lie that God is out to get you!  His Grace abounds in the face of repentance.  Consider Zephaniahs closing words beginning in Vs 17.

Love you all!  Dig in and live it out!
