Good Morning “Worshippers Through Work.” Today we are in Ecclesiastes 2.
“Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest.” Exodus 34:21
Obedience to this command required / requires faith. Letting your ground sit, your animals and workers rest, and taking time out to focus or refocus on The Lord and all that He has done meant, and still means trusting He will provide 7 days of fruit for our 6 days of labor. For Israel the same applied to years (Deuteronomy 23:12-17). It reminds us that He is the provider, not us or our hands. However we must not forget the first part of the verse either. We are to labor for six days. That too is a demonstration in faith. He is faithful to supply the strength for the labor (Isaiah 40:31). He gives each the ability to provide. He actually does it - though us (Deuteronomy 8:18).
But what happens when the end goal is not simply being obedient? Not simply demonstrating faith and bringing Glory to God through the abilities He’s given us, but instead amassing wealth. We miss the big picture. We miss the miraculous process of God blessing with ability, and energy to perform work. We make it about ourselves and are left empty despite our collecting things and wealth. Solomon realized this and called it meaningless. “A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment?” Ecclesiastes 2:24-25 NIV
Love you all! Dig in!
