Good Morning “Out of Step With The Wicked.” Today we are in Isaiah 48.
70 years of judgement. Now as God raises up Cyrus the Great to deliver Judah from Babylons grip… He has a message of Hope for Judah.
Her pride and idolatry needed dealt with. His rebuke (at the hand of Babylon) was not intended to destroy Israel completely, only to refine her through adversity, as silver through a fire. God’s intention is always to purge sin from His people. He prefers that we willingly release our sin, but in the event we are stubborn, He will do it for us. We don’t like that part. Often it’s not pretty. “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”
Hebrews 12:11 NIV
The call in that time for Israel to flee Babylon is echoed in future Prophecy in Revelation. (Reminder) “Babylon,” is not just a physical place in Isaiah’s time, but a Biblical metaphor for spiritual adultery & worship of the things of this world by God’s people (Revelation 18:1-4)
They / we need to trade our idols for Jesus - Living Water is what we need! We see that imagery suggested in this chapter. In verse 21, God reminds Judah of His care for them in the desert - water from a rock… but hang on, maybe He’s not just talking about the wet stuff. Remember how Jesus promised “living water” to the Samaritan “woman at the well.” Now consider Paul’s words to the church in Corinth:
“For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea. They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.” 1 Corinthians 10:1-4 NIV
I think it’s awesome how God weaved it all together don’t you? Even as this chapter closes he reminds us…
“”There is no peace,” says the Lord, “for the wicked.”” Isaiah 48:22 NIV
Gods already instructed us to the contrary. Remember King David’s words in Psalm 1:
“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.” Psalms 1:1-2 NIV
Love you all! Dig in!
