Good Morning “Lie Detectors.” Today we are in Psalm 91.
It’s fitting that we “coincidently” find ourselves in this passage on the Saturday before Resurrection Sunday. Jesus was in the tomb, but not for long.
Maybe the language in this Psalm sounds familiar? There’s a good reason for that. We’ve studied parts of it when we were in the New Testament.
Check it out… Jesus refers back to the most comforting parts of Psalm 91:4-6 in Matthew 23:37. “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.”
Matthew 23:37 NIV
His heart is to provide refuge to us in the midst of our struggles… we must humbly acknowledge we need it rather than refusing it. Seems a simple logical decision.
Jesus isn’t the only one that knows The Word of God. Satan is a Bible scholar from way back. He’s quite proficient at serving up his twisted version for us… can you recognize it?
Compare Psalm 91:9-16 with Satans temptation challenge to Jesus in Luke 4:9-12. Do you notice what key part is missing?
Conveniently Satan leaves out verse 13, the part about Jesus crushing his head! He is a liar and a deceiver! There is no real battle! Jesus won! HE IS RISEN! (Genesis 3:15). Satan will however; never stop coming after us (1 Peter 5:8). The only battle is in our mind, brought on by our indifference and his deception (1 John 4:4).
We must be students of The Word to detect the twisted presentations he offers up even today (Acts 17:11).
Love you all! Dig in!
