Good Morning “Priority Organizers”. Today we are in Haggai 1.
King Cyrus of Persia conquered Babylon in 539BC. God used this pagan king to begin allowing His people to return to Jerusalem to rebuild their Temple. They constructed and dedicated the foundation but work was halted after some interaction with neighboring enemies who had some influence in the Persian court (Ezra 4:4-6:22). Sixteen years later King Darius takes the throne, and God raises up Haggai the prophet to urge the Jews to continue their work. God through Haggai specifically calls on Zerubbabel the governor and Joshua the High Priest to continue the construction.
The people of Judah were going about life, living in their own reconstructed, even paneled houses… yet the Temple still lied in ruins. They returned to aspects of their old way of life… yet had discounted the Temple and worship within it. They had interest, time, resources energies to rebuild their houses, yet none for the Temple. Gods message is clear, He has withheld the moisture and squelched their crop yields because of their messed up priorities.
Many lessons lie in these passages for us. When it comes to our focus, our efforts, our energies, our resources, even our finances… where do our priorities lie? Scripture is clear… we cannot out give God with any of it (Proverbs 11:24-25; Malachi 3:10). Are we so focused on building our own lives we miss the gift of growing in and serving our Lord?
Love you all! Dig in and live it out!
