Psalm 101

Good Morning “Those Who Aim Small… and Miss Small.”  Today we are in Psalm 101.

“Aim small miss small”, from the “great theologian” Mel Gibson in The Patriot… is the idea of aiming at the smallest possible point on a target or object when shooting.  If one simply aims or points at the target its self - it’s unlikely a perfect bulls eye will be the result.  In fact you probably won’t get close.

I talk about this particular subject a bunch with our students.  No good coach begins the season hoping to win 50% of the games ahead, or starts a game hoping for just a dozen penalties.  No musician sits down to play a piece of music, aiming for just 10 mistakes.  The same is true with any strategic military plan, business plan… etc etc.   We understand the goal to be perfection.

Why do we lower our gold standard when it comes to our spiritual life and obedience to The Word of God.  THAT is literally the most important thing in our lives, why are we willing to compromise there?

David was called “a man after Gods own heart”… by God.  Here we’re reminded why.  He made a plan.  He had a direction.  It was well thought out, and with perfect execution it would give him a chance at righteous living.  We are all a work in process (Philippians 1:6), so we will no doubt continue to stumble, but where is our aim?  What is our goal?  Jesus set the example - the bar!

“As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.””
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭14‬-‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Review Romans 6 as well!

When we sin, it’s because we choose sin.  Want to follow Jesus?  Aim small.

Love you all!  Dig in!
