Psalm 106

Good Morning “Phinehas’.”
Today we are in Psalm 106.

“Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalms‬ ‭106‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The Psalmist begins with praise, then quickly turns the tone to recounting some of the many times Israel turned, rebelled against God and sinned horribly.  How bad can it get?  “They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to false gods.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭106‬:‭37‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What?  That’s crazy! Our culture and society has gotten crazy but at least we don’t see human sacrifice anymore… or do we?

A false god, and idol, can be anything we place before The One True God in worship.  Notice they mingled with the nations (vs 35) and adopted their customs.  Have we done the same?  According to the World Health Organization an estimated 73 million human sacrifices are performed annually.  Around 1,000,000 of those are performed in the US alone.  They are babies offered to the god of self, convenience, financial protection, or to one of the many other idols or things we place before God and His Truth.  We clinically call them abortions… why not call them what they are?

Praise God for women, who knowing — by Doctor’s tests and warnings, know what lies ahead if they carry their baby to term, nevertheless; trust the LORD and do not waver!

In this Psalm we also see Gods faithfulness.  The depth of forgiveness for a people when they turn back to Him in repentance!  It’s unmerited and frankly astonishing, however; that’s our God!  What is our responsibility in the face of such a moral decline?  Consider Phinehas’ response to his people’s wickedness, in the midst of The Lords Discipline.  “But Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was checked.” Psalms‬ ‭106‬:‭30‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Are you a Phinehas?  “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Love you all!  Dig in!
