Good Morning “Successful”. Today we are in Proverbs 29.
Moses is dead. Joshua is about to lead the nation of Israel into the “Promised Land”, but first Gods got some special instruction for Joshua. Check it out:
“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:7-9 NIV
Proverbs 29:18 from today’s chapter reminded me of Gods Word to Joshua.
“Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.”
Proverbs 29:18 NIV
The Word “revelation” here is referring specifically to The Word God gave through the Prophets, simply The Word of God. When a people fail to heed The Word of God they have no deterrent or “restraint” from sin. They embrace it and indulge! In the world full of offerings that we live in, we CANNOT get lax! We MUST daily renew our minds (Romans 12:2, Psalm 1:1-2)
Consider the catastrophic outcome otherwise. Apart from The Word we do what is right in our own eyes, we let our “hearts” guide us… but our hearts are wicked and deceitful (Jeremiah 17:9-10). Consider some of the many examples from Israels history. Remember when we studied the kings? How many did what was right in the eyes of The Lord? A handful. How many did what was evil? WAY more. Flip through 1,2 Kings and 1,2 Chronicles for instance and just take inventory. The difference? The Word! Wisdom!
Love you all! Dig in!
